A cold wind blows, bringing a chill to the morning air.
Summer’s warmth becomes a pleasant memory as green becomes red and gold.
The days are crisp, the air is clear, the hillsides dressed in brilliant Autumn Hues.

My answer.
Warmth, anticipation, excitement, and joy.
Autumn is the most beautiful season. The awakenings of Spring and the comforting warmth and long days of Summer pale in comparison to Fall as the land adorns itself in its colorful best one last time before Winter’s sleep falls across the landscape.

This is one of the most colourful regions in autumn. You have captured it perfectly. I especially like the reflections in the water and the white birch trees. But, surely, it doesn’t look quite like this yet? I was there in late October to see the colours, though I know it can all depend on when the first frosts arrive. Like you, autumn is a favourite of mine. I’m just not awfully keen on what follows 😦
I couldn’t agree more! My only wish is that it last longer.
No, the color here isn’t this good yet, but northern NH is coming along nicely from what I hear. And this weekend I’ll be backpacking in the middle if some of the best scenery Nh has to offer. 3-4 days in the middle of nowhere, during what should be pretty close to peak fall color.
You’re right about what comes after, Stick Season, BLECH!! But then there’s winter!! Can’t wait to hit the high summits when they’re covered in fresh snow!!!

A long, dry summer has given autumn a jump start here on the west coast and our landscapes and vistas are beginning to turn into a riot of colour as well.

Fall is my favorite also, but I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 10 in Denali National Park where the colors are spectacular. Great photos. I’m headed to Vermont on Thursday and hopefully get to see some of this.
Now that is lucky! And not just in the fall.
My understanding is that the colors in the northern parts of the state, at least here in NH, are coming along very nicely. Which in good. I’m heading out for a 3-4 day backpacking trip right in the middle of it this weekend.

Wow Jeff…your passion for nature shines through….The photos I wish I could take… if you are ever interested, I host a small meme called Nature Notes.. I post on Monday nights and it is up now on my blog. I have blogged about nature in my area for the past 8 years around my house, pond and wetland woods and the meme is 5 years old, but small. I am sitting with the door open and I can hear the snore of a leopard frog who has spent the summer in the front garden… wonder why he is calling now…..Michelle
