A new day unfolds.
Golden light falls across the land.
Monumental beauty is revealed.

Ahhh, now there’s a lovely twist on the theme…
Stunning shots – just breathtaking.
That’s how I roll;-)
I’ve been known to be a little loose with my interpretations of the weekly theme from time to time. Not to mention the fact that of the almost 12,000 photos I currently have on my hard drive, there isn’t a single one that would even remotely qualify as a monument.
Hadn’t thought of the Sun as a monument, but I really like the idea, and (of course!) your beautiful photos.
Thank you. Admittedly it’s a bit of a reach, but it’s all I could come up with this week.
Thank you Amy.
Gorgeous photos…yes monumental beauty!
Thank you Mrs. P.
Nature is the greatest monument to the life force; nothing we create can get even close. Great pictures.
That just about sums up my thoughts as well. Even the most beautiful man made monument, even when executed to perfection, is improved upon with the addition of a little golden hour sunlight.
This is a lovely collection of shots, and a unique take on the theme.
Thank you very much.
Stick around, you haven’t seen anything yet. Or look back through some older Weekly Photo Challenge posts. I’ve been know to be a little fast and loose with my interpretation of the theme. :-)
As a rule I almost never read description of the theme for the week. I don’t want to be influenced by anyone else’s ideas, or their take on the theme.
gorgeous – and a brilliant take on the challenge that seems to be just outside the box :) i have been away and busy and didn’t have a monument to post. nice to enjoy this one. thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much. Same here, as I mentioned in another reply, of the almost 12,000 images I have in my Lightroom catalog I think there might be two statues among them. And neither would classify as a “monument” in my book.
So I got to thinking… ;-)
Nice take on the Monument theme! Monumental sunsets, something which you do very well. Of course, I’ve noticed that you do everything well. :)
Meanwhile, you’re welcome to come and see what my take on the theme is:
This is take two. Take one is at:
Thank you very much Cris. I’ll be sure to stop by to see what “monumental” post you’ve shared.
Great ‘monumental’ images. I like these so much better than the normal man made monuments, these make my heart sing!
Thank you Lee. I feel the same way. Man can do some really impressive things, but nature is still the better artist.
A beautiful take on the challenge :)
Thank you very much!
Beautiful images Jeff.
Gorgeous Jeff! I hope you’re starting to enjoy the sunnier days.
Yes, thank you Beth, I am. I’ve got one more trip to the mountains in the works before the snow is gone, to make up for my last trip, which turned out just a bit too windy and snowy for any good photos. FYI, high winds and whiteouts aren’t helpful when trying to photograph sunrise ;-)
But then, bring on the sunny warm weather.
Another incredible series, Jeff :)
My pick from the series is the last one…
Thank you Sir!
so gorgeous, every time! My favorite ever are the last 2, the sun behind the tree and the sea smoke again. I dream of that one, really! you did and do an excellent job with each and every picture, Jeff!
Julie you are far too kind, as usual.
I have an update for you on the Seek The Peak pledge issue. I heard back from one of the women who helps organize it, and near as she can tell there’s no reason why you should be having problems using your credit card to make a pledge even though you’re not in the U.S.
If for whatever reason it still doesn’t work(let me know if you need the link to try to make a pledge again), just give me some warning the next time you plan to be in the area and I’m sure I can swing something to help you realize that dream. :-D
All right! I’ll have another go at pledging for my favorite photo! I’ll keep you posted.
And will definitely come back and hike the peak myself some day!
Cheers and Happy Trails, always!
Yes, I’d love that! Please don’t feel you need to make a pledge, though I do appreciate it, and I know the Mount Washington Observatory certainly will.
oh don’t worry, I don’t do it for you ;-) I really like the sea smoke picture and would love to win it!
That’s good, because I don’t see a penny of the donations. In fact the cost of the prints I”m giving away comes out of my pocket, not out of the funds I raise.
I offer the print raffle because I feel it might entice people to give if there is a possibility they might get something in return.
Oh??!!!! Do I really help both then?
Every penny of your donation goes the the Mount Washington Observatory. I do this because it’s an organization I support. And to be honest, if I can get any exposure for my photography out of it, all the better. But that’s not the main reason I do it
:D well, if I can help the Mount Washigton Observatory AND get one of your pictures, that is double fun for me! and if I don’t win the picture, I’ll have done my Good Action anyway!
I’ll just cross my fingers that it works out fine next time I try to make a pledge.
Stunning! Have been to most of these places and enjoy seeing them through your lens.
Thank you very much. I do hope I did them justice.
Thank you Nora.
Your nature is your monument Jeff and so well represented.
Thank you Valentina.
Breathtaking as always, Jeff! Thanks for sharing your slices of heaven with us : )
Thank you Connie. That’s my mission in life, to share what I see and how I see it with others.
And hope they like it ;-)
Beautiful as always. Wish you and your family Happy Easter!
Thanks Lucy. Happy Easter to you and your family as well.
