Weekly Photo Challenge: Today
Today? The weekly challenge theme this week is “Today.” What am I going to do with that?
What to photograph on a rainy day in New Hampshire? Too wet for any outdoor shooting, what do I have lying around just waiting to be photographed?
I’ve been eyeing the vase full of peacock feathers I keep for tying flies. Just like a lot of other things close by, they’ve been overlooked for subjects farther afield. Looks like a good excuse to play with the new 7D and 70-200 f2.8L. Throw in a 25mm extension tube and there you have it.

Decided one wasn’t enough for “Today,” so I added another.

Great subject matter! Have a set of these feathers for macro shots. Glad you mentioned extension tube(s) which is the subject of my weekly photo challenge (-:

Thanks Rick, While I do have a true macro lens, I’m not usually after a true macro photo, more of a close-up. Extension tubes fit the bill for what I’m after.
Great article of yours on the subject too. A set of Kenko tubes is a heck of a lot less than a lens, that’s for sure.

For a lover of the great outdoors you’ve sure have come up with gorgeous and inspired still nature pics 
. Feathers, tapestry, abstract art … they can account for all that, and most importantly Sara got what she wanted, she made you take out your gear even for the inside shot

I HATE peacock feathers for some reason, but… yes, they have wonderful colours. Very nice macros, Jeff! Congratulations on your new camera!

Amazing color and detail. I think I prefer the landscape orientated one. Greatly interested to see what you post from the new 7D as that one is on my radar for nextie

Thanks! So far I’m loving it. Hating what the extra megapixels have done to my memory card capacity, but other than the need for larger cards, it’s a keeper!

Was it an intentional play on words when you wrote “I’ve been eyeing the vase full of peacock feathers…” and then showed two pictures of the “eyes” on these feathers?
As for the 7D, that’s what I’ve been using since the fall of 2009. Now I’m toying with the idea of moving up to the 5D Mark III, but Canon raised its price compared to the Mark II. Also, there’s no built-in flash, which I’m used to using when I need some quick fill for a backlit subject.

Nope, no play on words, I’m not that clever
So far I’m loving the 7D. I can’t see myself ever going full frame either. And considering what Canon did to the price of the Mark III over the Mark II, I likely won’t be changing my mind either.
