Weekly Photo Challenge: Summer
Summer for me is:
Waterfalls,

Water Lilies,

Water Snakes, yes, water snakes,

And I couldn’t possibly forget:
Lady’s Slippers, with a few bunchberry,

And lupine,

Have a GREAT summer, I know I plan to!

How cool, exquisite, colourful, watery and sharp
I’ve seen some of these on your kitchen table before
May 26, 2012 at 6:40 am
Nice! You’ve been in my kitchen and couldn’t be bothered to stick around to say “hello”?
Actually, the only ones you saw was the lupine with the church in the background, and the lady’s slipper. The rest are all new.
At least I think they’re new, I should check that, gotta keep it fresh for the fans
May 26, 2012 at 6:56 am
Nice. Especially like the composition on the waterfall shot.
May 26, 2012 at 6:41 am
Thank you very much! I love getting low for my waterfalls. My knees take a beating, but a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do…
May 26, 2012 at 6:57 am
Lovely, Jeff, that waterfall shot is spectacular, actually they all are but I love the silken flow of water in the foreground on the waterfall shot. What settings did you use? xxx
May 26, 2012 at 7:00 am
Hold that thought, be right back!
May 26, 2012 at 7:04 am
Here you go,
17mm @f11, iso 160 for 10 seconds.
I know I used my B+W CPL, but don’t remember if I used my 4-stop ND.
May 26, 2012 at 7:11 am
Superb, Jeff, I’m taking notes! xxx
May 26, 2012 at 7:20 am
I have no secrets, regarding my photographs, others I’m taking to the grave
May 26, 2012 at 7:24 am
Of that I have no doubt!
May 26, 2012 at 7:47 am
The stars are mine and this is how I evaluate this submission. Photos are so good that even I could not have taken any better

Now, seriously…. they are the first rate Jeff Sinon all over again… my comment would be that they all have an early autumn (fall for you crazy Americans) feel about them; the only summery one features my favourite subject of all, though you have blurred it on purpose. Can you guess what I am talking about?
May 26, 2012 at 7:06 am
Thanks Paula,
The waterfall was actually taken very recently, so technically spring, but all the rest a pure summer baby!!
My guess, Water Lily
May 26, 2012 at 8:15 am
Nope, I said the subject was blurred and the pic felt more summery to me than the rest of the bunch… I was talking about the tower in the background. I haven’t shown you many of my pics, but I have a serious thing for towers :O)
May 26, 2012 at 8:25 am
Ahhh, St. Matthew’s. All the other photos I’ve seen of this field of lupine have the church in much sharper focus. In my “dare to be different” way I decided to go a different route. I’m glad you like it.
May 26, 2012 at 8:41 am
You asked me to tell you what I would have done different
and since I am all crooked and weird I would go for a sharp tower and blurred lupine
May 26, 2012 at 8:46 am
Come on over! I’ll take you up to Sugar Hill and show you right where this field is
May 27, 2012 at 7:28 pm
Enjoy your summer and thanks for the gorgeous photos
May 26, 2012 at 7:42 am
You as well Madman, and thank you!
May 26, 2012 at 7:46 am
P.D: but this works for me as well
as long as it has a tower in it. Fantastic composition btw!!!!
May 26, 2012 at 8:48 am
Nope, I reconsidered, having the tower sharp and all the vegetation blurred in this exact composition would not make much sense
. Just shoot the things the way you feel it Jeff and thank you for letting me meddle
May 26, 2012 at 9:51 am
P.S. On the other hand, I guess it is not possible to have these two lupines sharp and the tower sharp and the all the rest of stuff blurred… nope not technically possible
May 26, 2012 at 9:54 am
Nice series, Jeff! The watersnake is very cool, looks like a pretty darn big one too! Lots of “Water” in the summer. Totally agree!
May 26, 2012 at 10:57 am
beautiful summer moments – whether the moments be overcast or sunny.
thanks for sharing.
May 26, 2012 at 12:43 pm
Nice shots Jeff. I particularly like the water lilies
May 26, 2012 at 4:36 pm
Great iamges Jeff…but a snake for summer…oh no
May 26, 2012 at 7:29 pm
That waterfall is gorgeous. They’re all great but that waterfall. And the Lily too… WOW.
May 26, 2012 at 10:19 pm
Thanks a bunch Karina! I should be waste deep in water lilies again pretty soon!
May 27, 2012 at 7:30 pm
Great pictures Jeff. I like the picture of the flowers a lot. Enjoy your summer.
May 27, 2012 at 7:01 am
Thanks Arindam, you as well!

May 27, 2012 at 5:15 pm
Thank you, glad you like them.
May 27, 2012 at 7:04 pm
Waterfalls – YES, beautiful flowers – YES, water snakes – NO!!! Lovely images, Jeff! Have a great summer
May 27, 2012 at 5:57 pm
But actually… what would paradise be without a snake?!
May 27, 2012 at 6:09 pm
It needs snakes to BE paradise!!
May 27, 2012 at 7:05 pm
Awww, come on, what’s not to like about a snake

These are fantastic – you could have snuck in your waterfall shot to Nick and Shannon’s long exposure challenge this month, no problem! I liked seeing the large print version of some of your photos, such as the lupine one, over on your Facebook page. It’s got to be such a satisfying feeling to see your work in large print like that! (I’m still a little afraid mine will turn out too blurry in large sizes… :/ )
June 5, 2012 at 10:39 pm
Thanks Abra! I had every intention of submitting a few of my waterfalls, but one thing led to another… The project involving all those large prints you saw all over my kitchen being the biggest reason I didn’t find the time.
Yes, I do like to see my photos printed large. What makes you think yours would be blurry if you printed them large?
June 5, 2012 at 10:49 pm
Great series, Jeff. My summer series would consist of only a bloated, orange, relentless sun in a cloudless sky, dried creeks, and sun scorched brown foliage. Really love the color balance in the lily and what a cool water snake. I’ve never seen the lady slipper, but it looks a bit alien. Strange but lovely.
June 6, 2012 at 9:06 pm
Sounds like you live within the blast radius of a nuclear bomb
Yes those Lady’s Slippers are a strange looking orchid aren’t they. My friend Kate calls the the “ball sack.”
June 8, 2012 at 10:08 pm
OMG – that new camera is working wonders. My eyes just had visions
beyond comprehension. You know my favorite it the Lady Slipper. I think
the bunch berry behind it are so delicate. I can’t eblieve they grow wild
near you. I would be scooping them all up. Good ones, Jeff.

Thank you Yassmin! I have been trying like mad to visit your blog to properly thank you for all the wonderful comments and the two posts you’ve reblogged. But for some reason I can’t. The page seems to load, but I can’t do anything, can’t scroll, can’t click, it’s like the page is frozen.
For now, I will have to express my gratitude here on my blog. Rest assured I will keep trying to pay a visit to your little corner of blogdom

December 13, 2012 at 9:33 pm

December 14, 2012 at 7:00 am

December 14, 2012 at 2:17 pm
I don’t know yet. By the time I figured out that for some reason Chrome doesn’t like your blog, it was so late I needed to get to sleep.

I do, though I’m having a hard time with almost all of the non-English posts. Google translator is doing a pretty crappy job of translating Arabic into English. It’s making it difficult to read, but I’m not giving up!
